The best book I have read so far about the American West was "Ranch 101: The Creation of the American West." by Michael Wallis. There can't be a more readable, enjoyable, informative book on the subject. I hope you folks realize this.
Aside from this, I would lke to learn if there is any truth in the story that TR recruited cowboys for the Rough Riders at a hotel in San Antonio. [I can't remember the name of the hotel at the moment]

We would like to have an American Cowboy Day in our town (Old Town Temecula) this year. What day will it be this year and will there be bumper stickers available for it?
Thanks
—Debbie Dennis, Old Town Temecula, CA
America needs the Cowboy more today than ever as our Nation is faced with members of our elected government, who seem to function without a moral compass. The integrity of the Cowboy serves as a timeless reminder of the grit and determination of a proud individual, symbolizing a purpose and a philosophy of strength and American spirit.

Looks cool.

Why is there no official declaration from the Governor of Texas? I don't see it along with others in the link "In The News" of this website.

Bandera, Texas The Cowboy Capital of the World. We do celebrate the cowboy, so the NDAC is a perfect fit for us and especially this year. We are sponsored by the Frontier Times Museum and just a few weeks earlier we were given a wonderful hat collection that will be a permanent display. Our banner over Main Street said HATS OFF TO THE COWBOY, THE FRONTIER TIMES MUSEUM CELEBRATES THE NATIONAL DAY OF THE AMERICAN COWBOY.
The day was a great success, the Cowboy Church band played all the old cowboy songs, there was a "hoss" wash, dress-up for kids with hats, boots, chaps and then they could rope a "steer".There was leather stamping for the kids to take home, a wooden horse to ride in their cowboy clothes. We sold lemonade in a tin take-home cup and a farmers lunch of cheese and sausage with crackers.
The museum will continue to use the theme Hats Off to the Cowboy for the months ahead in the programs and with banners on the entrance of the museum. Our first program this year will be on the Western Trail and we look forward to many interesting programs. We have five rodeo champion ropers in our area and plan to have them involved in the months ahead.

IT'S ABOUT TIME. A WOULDERFUL WAY TO KEEP OUR HISTORY ALIVE AND LET "MODERN DAY" KIDS KNOW WHO HELPED TO MAKE OUR COUNTRY WHAT IT IS TODAY.

Cowboys & Cowgirls are what formed this great nation we live in.

I am so glad to see there are others out there who think of the "American Cowboy" in such a way that I do. I admire cowboys so much for their honesty, courage, persistance, and continuing the cowboy tradtions and the western way of life. I hope to one day become Miss Rodeo America, so that I can expand the word of rodeo not only all throughout the nation, but throughout the world, as the "spokeswoman" of the PRCA. Thank you, American Cowboy, for organizing such a wonderful holiday!
