2010 Quick Facts
- The sixth annual National Day of the American Cowboy will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2010
- The fifth annual National Day of the American Cowboy will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2009
- In 2004, American Cowboy magazine launched the National Day of the American Cowboy campaign as a way to acknowledge and preserve the heritage, history, and culture of America’s cowboys and cowgirls.
- Thanks to Senator Craig Thomas, R-Wyoming, who sponsored the National Day of the American Cowboy resolution, the first national observance of the American Cowboy day occurred July 23, 2005.
- President George W. Bush issued a statement of support for the resolution that same year.
- After Senator Thomas’ death in 2007, Senator Mike Enzi took over as the Senate sponsor in 2008, with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords sponsoring it in the House.
- The resolution will have to be reintroduced each year until it is officially designated a national day of observance by the President.
- The National Day of the American Cowboy is always the fourth Saturday in July.
