The 4th annual National Day of the American Cowboy will be held on Saturday, July 26th, 2008
-
In 2004, American Cowboy magazine launched the National Day of the American Cowboy campaign as a way to acknowledge and preserve the heritage, history, and culture of America’s cowboys and cowgirls.
-
Thanks to Senator Craig Thomas, R-Wyoming, who sponsored the National Day of the American Cowboy resolution, the first national observance of the American Cowboy day occurred July 23, 2005
-
President George W. Bush issued a statement of support for the resolution that same year.
-
After Senator Thomas’ death in 2007, Senator Mike Enzi took over as the Senate sponsor in 2008, with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords sponsoring it in the House.
-
The resolution will have to be reintroduced each year until it is officially designated a national day of observance by the President.
-
The National Day of the American Cowboy is always the 4th Saturday in July.
